Carlow Regional Youth Service Youth Projects
Carlow Regional Youth Service have a range of projects running throughout County Carlow, which work to provide both universal and specific services to our young people.
These projects are mainly funded by a range of government, community and local agencies, through fundraising and local support and sponsorship.
Follaine Counselling Service
Carlow Regional Youth Service provides a confidential one to one counselling service for young people from 12-18 years to help them come to terms with problems in their lives.
Throughout their teenage years and into adulthood, young people are regularly presented with problems and questions to which there are no easy answers. In many cases young people will be able to seek help from their family and friends. In other cases, because of the nature of the problem, this may not be possible. This is where FOLLAINE Youth Counselling Service can help.

YARC Youth At Risk Carlow Project
The YARC Project provides support and advocacy for young people. The project aims to provide support to young people who are having difficulties and engaging in ‘at risk’ behaviours.
It is a first port of call for young people who are experiencing difficulties and aims to enhance the social and personal development of vulnerable young people. Staff work with young people to increase their capacity to recognise, manage and reduce their ‘at risk’ behaviour. They also aim to build resilience in vulnerable young people so that they can make good life choices and remain in education and training.

The Gaming Project
The Gaming Project offers specialist groups for young people who enjoy video games. We intentionally use the positive aspects of gaming to deliver youth work. Games are a vehicle we use to bringing young people together, support them develop learn new skills and express their creativity. We take a young person led approach to our work, supporting young people to pursue their passions and interests.
However, we also recognise that like any hobby or interest, playing digital games can have a negative impact on young people’s wellbeing. Our programmes promote healthy behaviours whilst gaming such as when to take breaks, how to control temper in game and using the internet safely. Young people have shared that this helps them enjoy gaming more, preventing their digital gaming from negatively other parts of their lives.
Comhairle na nÓg
Comhairle Na nÓg are child and youth councils in the 31 local authorities of the country, which give children and young people the opportunity to be involved in the development of local services and policies.
In light of the fact that Comhairle Na nÓg is for young people under the age of 18 and who therefore have no other voting mechanism to have their voice heard, Comhairle Na nÓg is designed to enable young people to have a voice on the services, policies and issues that affect them in their local area.
Carlow Comhairle meets once a week to work on various issues on behalf of all the young people in Carlow.
